Flat Rock Koi is located in Georgia about 60 miles east of Atlanta. We have chosen Georgia for our grow-out farm since it has a long growing season and an abundance of good clay soil that has proven to be conducive to the rapid growth of koi, while improving skin quality and colors.
We currently have 9 mud ponds and are working on number ten. We are now constructing a large greenhouse and anticipate its completion around the end of November. Although we do some breeding, our focus is to grow out high quality Japanese Tosai and Nisai.
We have been to Japan 52 times and will continue to visit Japan’s top breeders in search of high quality koi to grow out at our farm. We often plan our buying trips to coincide with their harvests or the All Japan Show.
We're back from Japan Take a look at the photos at right to get a first look at some of the wonderful koi we'll be bringing home (or click here to go to the album)! If you see one you want more information on, please contact us.
In addition to Flat Rock Koi, Vicki Burnley Vaughan, owner, is also owner/director of Koi Lab LLC, which provides us with a full-time in-house microbiologist. All of our incoming stock is quarantined and tested for KHV. Parasite screening, KHV testing, culture and sensitivity, histology, and water quality analysis including heavy metal detection are just a few of the things Vicki monitors here to make sure we are providing the healthiest koi possible. Koi Lab services are also available to you at www.koilab.com.
Vicki offers training courses concerning koi health all over the country as well as the annual Koi Health Management Course that will be held March 26 – 28th, 2010 – visit the following link for details: www.koihealthseminar.com
Fish purchased from Flat Rock Koi may be taken home or left with us for grow-out in one of our many mud ponds. Our mud ponds are fenced and netted for security and predator control. Guard dogs are on premises and patrolling the ponds.
In addition to pond and fish services, we have custom blended food, nets of many sizes and uses, filters, filter media and all your fish needs available for purchase.
Our goal is to make your experience in this hobby one of joy and great success.
