Tancho
The name of this koi is derived from the national bird of Japan, the Tancho Crane. Tancho literally means “red spot on the head,” and is highly desirable in Japan because of its similarity to the Japanese national flag, a flag that shows a red sun on a white field. While a perfectly round circle is the most popular, other shapes such as square, diamond, heart, and oval are available. A tancho spot shows up on many varieties, but the only ones admitted to the tancho class in koi shows are the Tancho Kohaku, Sanke, and Showa. |
